The whole concept is about to enter your sweetest dreams, to
reach places
were everything fit together and you don't have any problems.
I want the
music to be a little bit dark and spooky but also at the same
time happy and
warm. You know a "Behind the darkness you see the light"
kind of feeling.
4- You now have five songs available on
your website. Are you expecting to produce a complete CD soon?
Tree songs and two (not finished) sound clips. I think its good
promotion to have some songs for download on the page, as my music
isn't yet available through any label. I'm still actively looking
for a record deal and I hope it will be solved soon, so I can
share my music with the rest of the world.
5- So you are actually searching for a
recording contract. Did you already have some offers from records
companies?
I'm still looking for a deal. I recently had one offer from an
Italian record label but it was a very small label and I don't
think they have actually started up yet. I would be very happy
to come across any label that is willing to put some time and
effort into my music, so the search goes on...
6- Are you the one and only composer in
Another Life?
Yes, except for the lyrics on the demo, they are written by Rogga
(Paganizer) as he knows what I want. I told him what to write
about and he did a great job. On the new songs I will write the
lyrics by myself, as I can now make every word fit into the feeling
of the music and I think that the music can grow even more that
way.
7- Can you talk about your writing process?
I take the melodies I have in my head and play them on guitar
and try to make everything fit together as good as possible. If
I just make a good verse and great refrain everything else just
comes by itself. I think it's hard to make good music and I really
want to make music that people can remember and sing along to.
8- How did you ended up introducing Dan
Swanö as a session drummer, keyboard and guitar player in
Another Life?
I'm a big fan of Dan Swanö and I like his way in making
music so I just phoned him up and asked if he wanted to do the
drums and keyboard parts on my project. I knew that he was the
right person to do that stuff and he did a great job on the demo.
I don't know if I will use Dan on the drums in the future, it
all depends on wheter he has time or not. Time will tell.
9- In what way is Dan Swanö contributing
to your music?
He has done the drum and keyboard arrangements for the songs,
and he also contributes with a solo in one of the songs. He did
an excellent job and for this kind of music you can't really find
anyone else that would have helped out better than Dan.
10- Are you planning to make a band with
a complete line-up with this project?
Yes, and I think we will start rehearsing very soon actually.
I will use people that I think can play my music in the way I
want it to sound and whom I have played together with before.
The chemistry is quite important as I want the songs to benefit
from having a complete line up instead of just sounding like a
bunch of guys doing covers of my songs.
11- So do you expect to play live someday?
I hope we can make it to that point but first I want to make
everything perfect in terms of playing and writing more material.
I also must solve the problem with the keyboard parts which we
obviously can't perform live as a four piece band. I don't know
anyone who can play keyboard around here but I hope I can eventually
find someone; otherwise we'll probably have to convert the keyboard
parts to guitar instead.
12- And if you had to choose one or two
bands to play live with, which bands would you pick and why?
Hmm, I think it would be Nightingale as I like their music very
much or maybe Opeth. It would be really cool as well to play with
a band that has a big audience with maybe like 30.000 fans...
A show like that would be really cool to play indeed!
13- What do you prefer between the writing
process, the recording of an album in studio and playing live?
And why?
I prefer to be in the studio 'cause there I can put all my stuff
together and everything also sounds very different when it's finished
and I really like that! The live part is great to, the feeling
you have before the show and when you play the first tones of
the song, that's indeed a great feeling. I think that the writing
process is more fun when you have a band to rehearse with rather
than jamming by yourself.
14- Besides Another Life, do you have other
projects? If yes, can you tell us more about them?
I play in a band called Shifty Hawk which is a "rock"
band, or rather heavy rock. I don't think that's my kind of music
style but I like to play with them and it's good to play with
other people. I don't want to lose that part as it's very developing
as a musician.
15- You've been a founding member of Paganizer,
a Death/Thrash metal band, quite different from Another Life,
which is pretty soft and cozy. Paganizer's lyrics - which as far
as I know, you are not the composer, but still - are pretty centred
on death and sickness. But in Another Life we are pretty much
in dreams and illusions. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think you
began to work on your project while you were with Paganizer. Was
it awkward for you to work on two projects so different from one
to the other?
You are right, Another Life is about dreams and illusions rather
than reality and all stuff that goes around us. I have always
liked dreams and to play with the thought of being in Another
Life where everything is soft and beautiful. No it was not hard
to work with Paganizer at the same time actually, I didn't write
the music in Paganizer and we rehearsed only once a week and Another
Life was something I did at home.
16- You have begun to promote your music
in front of the media. What is the reaction so far?
The reaction is very positive, all people that have heard it
likes it a lot. But the whole thing is just in the beginning so
it's hard to say where this will eventually end up. I hope it
never ends actually... ; ) I will start sending out demos to magazines
and hope that they'll like it as much as you at The Darkest Hours.
This is actually my first interview so it's all kind of new for
me.
17- What can we expect furthermore in future
compositions. Are you planning to stay in the same vein or you
are planning to incorporate new features?
I think I will make one more demo very soon if no label wants
to sign me in the coming months. I'm planning to stay in the same
vein for a very long time, I love this music and I can express
my feelings in a great way though it and this music style is the
kind of music I listen to everyday aswell. Of course my music
will change a bit through time, but I can promise that it will
be in a very positive way!
18- If you could change one thing in the
world, what would it be and why?
To not let religion rule over people, as I think it's used in
a very wrong way to control others. If people now must use it,
then use it to escape from reality and into Another Life instead...
19- This is the time to plug your stuff
(website, special news, etc.)
Check out www.anotherlife.se for the latest information about
Another Life, and if someone knows a label just send a mail to
info@anotherlife.se A
line in the guestbook is also much appreciated, as well as comments
on the songs/soundclips. Positive feedback is always a great engine
to push oneself forward in terms of writing music.
Thanks for answering The Darkest Hours
questions. I wish you good luck with
finding a record company for Another Life and good luck with the
project!
Thanks alot! And never forget to make your dreams into something
special!
